Diddy Riese

So, Doherty, Kris, Melinda and I recently went to The Happy Ending in Hollywood and left immediately after hearing a delightful rendition of Beverly Hills by a Frat Boy cover band. The place seemed like it would be interesting if it lacked the many muscles of guys in abercrombie and girls who danced on tables to the remixes of remixes. Though tempted to play the live lobster claw machine we left to the infamous Diddy Riese in westwood. This place is by all means worth the hype, though the price has skyrocketed 50 cents since my first encounter with ice cream cookie sandwich greatness. I prefer cinamon-sugar cookies with strawberry ice cream, though I hear chocolate chip cookies and mint n chip ice cream is also a delight. We all gave the place 2 thumbs way up and realized that we just don't understand what everyone at The Happy Ending was digging. We are the love Prawns and we have loved the Riese.

California Fish Grill

Our next spot in reviewland takes us to the California Fish Grill in Anaheim. This recommendation came from Lisa’s father Shelly, who often eats here on his lunch break. This restaurant is the seafood answer to California Chicken CafĂ©. The prices are extremely reasonable, the portions are large and fresh, and the environment is nice and new, I especially liked the salsa bar and the fact that the lamp shades were made of upside down metal buckets. I had the spicy mahi mahi wrap, which was delicious, and Lisa had the Fried shrimp platter which was neverending. They also have great French fries, in my opinion their top side dish. The place gets two thumbs way up, I wish they had a couple of these here in the city of angels. Love Prawns out.

Pie N Burger

For the record this is our first Post, and the first spot on our tour de fork around the greater Los Angeles area. We are the love prawns, consisting of myself, Lisa, and new recruits Doherty and Kris. Doherty is actually spelled Duarte, but since I am writing the first post he is going to have to deal with it.

Pie and Burger is a charming little spot in Pasadena that I consider a living time machine. It offers a large selection of homemade pies and even offers an original soda fountain where syrup is pumped and stirred with soda water. The place was sparsely inhabited by locals who read the paper and chatted with the friendly waitresses behind the diner's front counter. Aside from the comfortable atmosphere which was a plus, the food was just outstanding. The menu is small, just burgers, fries, sandwiches, and pie. Lisa and I indulged in Cheeseburgers, coconut cream pie, and an order of fries that we shared. Honestly, besides Tyler's in Palm Springs, this is one of the best burgers I've ever had. I finished mine in minutes and polished off the rest of Lisa's as well. The fries were equally good. They were the fat thick fries that you could use to club a burglar, loved them. The portion of coconut cream pie was huge; big enough to share. This Place gets the thumbs up for sure.
